課程概述

This course will introduce the fundamental skills and the applications of the GIS software for studying the Earth Sciences. We will cover the basic techniques of processing the geospatial data and generating maps for analyses and reports.

The content of this course includes:
(1) The basis and the application of GIS in Earth Sciences.
(2) The raster data processing and analysis.
(3) The vector data processing and analysis.
(4) Data digitization and map making
(5) Post-editing and refinements.

Students who participate in the course will be graded on the basis of the following three items:
(1) Performance in the course
(2) Homework
(3) Final report 

課程目標
 The aim of this course is to help students to become familiar with the GIS software, and to build their capacities applying the geospatial software to their studies and research. While the main program that will be introduced in this course is the ESRI ArcGIS, we will also cover some functions from QGIS and other programs to enrich student's capacity. 
課程要求
 Students who register to this course will have to pick up one research area around the world, collecting and processing the relevant geospatial data, and generate a meaningful map related to the earth sciences.
